| Site Description |
St. Charles played an important role in the Civil War as a training ground for the Eighth and Seventeenth Illinois Cavalry, as a recruiting center, and as home to Gen. John Farnsworth. The museum exhibits artifacts, pictures, and written information about the community's association with the Underground Railroad and the Civil War. Camp Kane trained more than one thousand men for the Union army, including the Illinois cavalry units mentioned above. General Farnsworth donated the land for Camp Kane, which today is a community park. The museum interprets the Civil War history of St. Charles and Camp Kane.
