| Site Description |
Commemorates several battles to capture Richmond, which was the Confederate capital during the Civil War. From the beginning of the war, "On to Richmond" was the rallying cry of Union troops, and the city was their primary objective for four years. Extensive remains of Union and Confederate earthworks are preserved. Included battlefields are Gaines' Mill, Glendale, Malvern Hill, and Cold Harbor. Featuring three floors of exhibits, the main visitors center occupies one of the surviving buildings that made up the Tredegar Ironworks.
