Site Description
Cedar Creek Battlefield is the site of the last major battle in the Shenandoah Valley, which occurred on October 19, 1864. This dramatic conflict between Jubal Early and Phil Sheridan was the only Civil War battle during which both sides experienced victory and defeat on the same day. The morning rout by Confederate troops was short lived as Federal troops counterattacked and captured their camp by nightfall.
